Scottish EPC data for marketing purposes

Scottish-EPC-public Search for a Scottish Energy Performance Certificate

With the introduction of the Scottish Government non-domestic EPC register comes the ability to access EPCs online. EPCs can be accessed and viewed online by any party with access to the Report Reference Number (RRN) and to organisations (‘authorised recipients’) delivering energy efficiency and carbon reduction initiatives on behalf of the Scottish and UK Governments.

The default situation is that EPC data can be accessed and used for marketing purposes. If you are the current owner or occupier of this building and do not wish this data to be used by these organisations to contact you can opt out.

Where an EPC is identified as opted out, all organisations with access to the data must not, by law, use this data to contact building owners or occupiers.

In order to op-out go to the web address below and follow the instructions provided.

Scottish EPC Register - Marketing Opt Out

Enter your 20 digit report reference number (RRN) from the EPC you wish to opt out, together with the address, exactly as printed on the EPC. The RRN is five groups of four digits separated by dashes, e.g. 1111-2222-3333-4444-5555.

Follow the instructions on the page and click the ‘Save’ button. You will receive a message advising you if the change in status is successful.

You may opt in at a later date using the same Opt-Out menu. The RRN is available on the front page at the top of your EPC.
