Scottish Government consultation relating to EU Directive 2010/31/EU

A Scottish Government consultation on transposition of EU Directive 2010/31/ EU is due to close on 20th January 2012. The results of this will dictate how the new EPC requirements of the directive will be implemented in Scotland.

The directive essentially adds additional requirements for EPCs and some key points that may be relevant to you include:

• The EPC rating will require to be contained within marketing material and the EPC be available from the outset rather than the EPC being made available.

• The EPC will be more detailed with additional information being provided that will be more helpful to building owners and agents.

• Non-domestic buildings bigger than 500 sq m that are visited by the public will require an EPC. This could mean retail and other buildings frequented by the public require an EPC.
